I don’t like industrialized products, it is that I just like to know what I’m eating. The International Numbering System for Food Additives (INS) makes it harder to know what you really are eating and confusingly the E number that is for products sold in the European Union.

On top of that there is the Palm Oil issue. I don’t buy anything with it because of how environmentally bad it is. So I end up making everything at home. This almond butter is easy to make and can be used to make almond milk (see our recipe here)! It’s a win-win!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb of shelled raw almonds

Preparation

Step 1 Preheat the oven to low temperature, 350 F.
Step 2 In a baking pan, spread the almonds evenly.
Step 3 Toast for 15 minutes to help release the natural oils.
Step 4 While still hot, put them a food processor and pulse until it looks creamy. You might need to rest if the machine starts getting to hot, some 5 minutes and then continue. Also to push down the almond that stick to the sides with the help of a spatula.
Step 5 Store in a sterilized jar and keep refrigerated. Put it in the fridge once it has cooled. It will last up to 3 months.

  • Stored in a sterilized jar in can last up to 3 months in the fridge.
