DIY: Glass Cleaner

I love homemade cleaning products, I just find it better when you know what is inside. I became specially conscious about it after my daughter was born, I was spraying her clothes with some sort of clothes perfume and I suddenly stopped to read the label. It said that you should only use it in a ventilated space and not with children around! What the F…!

I was shocked but it made me realize that the thing we spray into the air are also the things we are breathing. I know, it sounds commonsensical but it not always is. That is why I’m using ethanol in this recipe, or ethyl alcohol. Isopropyl alcohol, the main ingredient in most rubbing alcohols, is toxic and should never be consumed. I’m not telling you to go drink the glass cleaner nor that you should drink Vodka. I just think that if you are going to spray something in the air, it shouldn’t be toxic.

My daughter leaves the room when I’m cleaning the windows mostly because she hates strong smells but I would ask her to leave anyway. Just to be on the safe side.

As a tip, it is better to clean the windows on a cloudy day. That way you can see better if there is any stain left. I also use a piece of a rag, some people uses old newspaper but I find it problematic because the ink stains the window frame. I also reutilize the bottle of my old glass cleaner, it is hard to get anything that is not made of plastic in Argentina.
